Comparison of Abr Control Algorithms with Explicit Rate Feedback

This paper examines congestion control mechanisms for ABR (Available Bit Rate) traac in ATM networks. ABR service is deened in ATM standards to support applications which can share the excess network capacity dynamically by adjusting their data transmission rates based on the available resources in the network. ABR traac sources respond to feedback from the network. Feedback information can be in various forms. The recent trend for ABR control is to use explicit rate indication as feedback due to its advantages over the other types, such as fast convergence time to a stable state and straight policing. In explicit rate control scheme, switch systems compute fair share for each active ABR connection dynamically based on the currently available bandwidth and load. That information is carried in special cells called RM (resource management) cells and delivered to sources. In this work, three ABR congestion control schemes using explicit rate indication are described brieey and compared through our simulation study. Simulation parameters and results are followed by gures.
